 The Knights of Columbus Council 742

is a Catholic men’s organization open to men 18 years and older. The Knights are dedicated to Christian leadership, Fraternity, and charity. Every year, the Knights donate thousands of volunteer hours and millions of dollars to charitable causes.The DeSmet Council is located next to St Matthias Church. The Grand Knight for 2007-2008 is Bill Bellrose. You can contact the Knights by phone at 314-892-7723.  The meeting is the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in a room in the old school building marked for K of C.   

 DeSmet Council was founded in 1903. It is one of the oldest Councils in the state of Missouri. It is named after Pere DeSmet, who was a Jesuit Missionary to the Indians. 

 

The Council works closely with the St Matthias Parish, providing funds for various projects, members being active participants in their parish.

In addition to raising money for the Church and charity, the members enjoy social functions such as Christmas parties, a trip to the Way of Lights, Bus Trips to Cardinal baseball and various local shrines. There are golfing, fishing and horseshoe Tournaments as well as summer picnics and barbecues. Each monthly meeting has a business section but there are always refreshments and time to socialize.

Dear Brother Knights,

Our next meeting will be on June 3rd at the Council Barbecue. The Officer’s Meeting will be May 27 at 7:00 p.m. Scholarship winners will be presented their awards at this meeting.

Our barbecue will be on Wednesday June 3. The Council will furnish drinks plus hamburgers, hot dogs, brats, and buns. Each family is ask to bring one dish or a desert. The event will start at 5:00 p.m. We do have the Gym in case it is wet or too hot.

We will attend a Minor League Baseball Game on Monday July 22 at 7:05. We will charge $15 which would include a bus, a ticket, and food served by the Grizzllies.. We will collect at the barbecue.

Bob Wortmann as the Chair of a slating committee identified a slate of officers for the next fraternal year that begins July 1. Grand Knight is Ben Schaab; Deputy Grand Knight is Mike Tettamble; Chancellor Jim Kargus; Recorder , Treasurer Leo Malone; Advocate Art Santen; Warden Larry Stehr; Inside Guard Bob Radomski; Outside Guard, Justin Jacobs; Trustee for 3 years, Bill Bellrose.

We are planning for a Fall Dance on September 12, 2009. The Dance will honor the Parish’s 50th Anniversary. Music is by Larry Hallar Doors open at 5:30 p.m., $15 per person; $25 per couple.

We contributed $100 for Trivia Night which will help raise money for the Sister’s car.

Jim Smith announced the winners of the Catholic High School Scholarship. They were Micheal Schneider, Granddaughter of John O'Brien, Briana Heisse, granddaughter of Ben Schaab, and Margaret Hock granddaughter of Mel Hock.

The Mystery Trip’s bus will leave at 5:00 p.m. on June 19. The trip to Our Lady of Snows on November 12 has openings. Call Pam Stehr at 892-6631 or Pat Wortmann at 892-0070. **************************************************************************** UP-COMING EVENTS
